I have seen the term “Plasma Pro” used for Levoit air purifiers
and I do not really understand what it means Is it a filter or a type of technology Does it help with viruses smoke or smells more effectively than just HEPA I want to understand whether a Levoit model with Plasma Pro is worth the extra cost or if a normal HEPA-only purifier is enough
Plasma Pro is Levoits branded ion injection technology that produces charged particles intended to help capture airborne pollutants It is not a traditional HEPA filter but works alongside HEPA to enhance air cleaning
From my research Plasma Pro can reduce small particles and potentially deactivate some microbes because the charged ions may make particles clump but it is not a guarantee that it kills all viruses or bacteria It helps but should not be your only protection if that is your main goal
I used a Levoit purifier with Plasma Pro and I noticed my room felt fresher even when I did not run it on the highest speed I feel like it slightly improves dust removal but the biggest benefit is for smells sometimes because those charged ions seem to boost the filtration effect
One downside is that Plasma Pro might produce trace ozone even though it is designed to be safe The level is very small but if you are sensitive to ozone I would test the unit in a well ventilated space or consider just using a strong HEPA filter
Make sure to check third-party reviews for ozone levels before buying a Plasma Pro model
