Vehicle Automobile Pollution

I have been noticing more smog and air pollution in my city lately and I think a lot of it comes from vehicles. The exhaust smells strong in some areas and sometimes it makes my eyes burn or throat itch. I want to understand how automobile pollution affects health and the environment. Are cars worse than trucks or buses? I also wonder about electric vehicles and if they make a real difference. Is it only the exhaust that is harmful or do tires and brakes contribute too? I would like advice on how to reduce exposure while commuting. Are masks effective or is it better to plan routes away from heavy traffic? How do city planners try to control vehicle pollution? Any personal experiences or tips would help. :automobile:

I live near a busy highway and vehicle pollution really affects me. I notice coughing and eye irritation especially during rush hours. Wearing a high quality mask helps, but avoiding the busiest streets makes the biggest difference. I also started using an air purifier at home to reduce indoor exposure.

My doctor explained that automobile exhaust contains nitrogen oxides and particulate matter which can worsen asthma and cause long term lung problems. I try to check local AQI reports and avoid outdoor activities during high pollution hours. It feels safer for my family.

Thank you I will start checking AQI before going out!

Electric vehicles help reduce local exhaust emissions but overall traffic congestion still contributes to pollution. I try to encourage carpooling and public transport to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. Even small actions collectively matter.

Diesel trucks and buses produce more particulate matter than regular cars. I avoid walking or cycling near routes with heavy trucks during peak hours. I also pay attention to the wind direction because pollution spreads differently depending on it.
